Biography
Carisoprodol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant prescribed for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. As a prodrug, it is metabolized in the liver to meprobamate, which contributes to its therapeutic effect by exerting anxiolytic and sedative properties through its action on the GABA-A receptor complex. Typically administered in 250 mg or 350 mg doses up to three times daily and at bedtime, carisoprodol is intended for short-term use due to its potential for dependence and abuse.
